Program Overview
Our overarching goal for our Kin Mentorship Program is to provide mentorship networks for AAD students with the goal of helping them realize and achieve their unique vision of the Asian American dream. We seek to connect underserved Pan Asian American undergraduates with mentors that are closer in age to students, share similar backgrounds, and have “walked in students’ shoes”.
For mentees, there is a certain level of kinship and understanding inherent to receiving mentorship from professionals that share the same background as them. Mentees will gain valuable exposure to a variety of industries and the myriad of challenges, secrets, and lessons associated with navigating a professional career. More importantly, mentees will receive invaluable insights into determining an actionable plan to achieve their career aspirations.
For mentors, it is both fulfilling and empowering to help their “kin” attain their dreams. Mentors become the older sibling/guiding voice they might’ve benefited from having in their lives during the early stages of their careers. Furthermore, our mentors aim to help our students realize their own interpretation of the Asian American Dream, one that accounts for their lived experiences, future career aspirations, and Pan Asian American heritage.
This program is created and facilitated by Pan Asian Americans for Pan Asian Americans. If you are a student looking to catalyze your professional development through our comprehensive and effective mentorship program, then this is the program for you.
This program will be virtual with 1 mentor-2 mentees/25 mentors-50 mentees for a 3-month period/quarter.
Mentor-Mentees Matching Process:
The Kin Mentorship Program Virtual Kickoff Session is where both Mentors and Mentees will have an opportunity to virtually introduce themselves and potentially meet their Mentor/Mentees.
After the Kickoff Session, a 'Mentor-Mentees Matching Survey' will be sent out. This survey will include their field of study/major/minor if applicable, hobbies, and preference for Mentor/Mentees.
The following information will also be provided for:
Mentors: 50 Mentees names with their major/minor if applicable
Mentees: Mentors headshots & short bios
