Fostering Space for the Asian American Identity

A person’s values can guide difficult choices, determine suitability for a company fit, and make or break a relationship. One might even say knowing someone’s values summarizes who they are as a person. Since our values affect how we carry ourselves, it undeniably influences the way mentorship and guidance are provided. For Jisoo Rho, an Asian American Dream (AAD) mentor, the importance of keeping an open mind is a standard she holds for herself and hopes for her mentees.

Dorothy Chan

Dorothy is a Data Operations Associate at PitchBook and has been with AAD since November
2021. She graduated from the University of Miami in May 2021 with a B.A. in Economics and
Chinese Studies and minors in International Studies and Exercise Physiology. She hails from the
sunny city of Miami, FL and is currently based in Seattle, WA. She is interested in researching
and discussing all things China, capital markets, and geopolitics and seeks to bridge the gap
between the U.S. and China.

Minghuang Wang

Minghuang Wang is a 1.25 generation immigrant from China raised in New York City. He studies Social Work and International Affairs at Skidmore College. He found writing as an engaging way to discover himself and the world around him. When he's not writing, he could be found wandering through the bustling city or photographing lives and objects. Minghuang received Honorable Mention for the Ruth and Burt Schlesinger Award of Poetry, sponsored by the 92NY Christopher Lightfoot Walker Literature Project in 2019.

Sylvia Yang

Sylvia is a Taiwanese/Singaporean who came to the U.S. to study at Skidmore College. She graduated in May 2022 with a B.A. in Psychology and English and a minor in Business & Management. She enjoys studying existential psychology and loves doing thought experiments with a yummy latte in hand. Ultimately, Sylvia strives to curate a type of inner peace and gratitude that leaves her tranquil even within the chaos of life.
